Acrylic and Oil on Canvas. 2020
I made this painting a number of years ago but was never really happy with it. During the COVID shut down, combined with our current political situation, I feel strongly that we need to demand bette of our "leaders" and ourselves. This painting is one way in which I am asking better of myself - to not accept a mediocre piece of work and to not stop working until it has become better.
The pandemic has affected my practice in a few ways - 1. When we first began sheltering at home, my home studio was my refuge. I decided to take advantage of the forced slow down to intentionally slow down my making and to really appreciate and enjoy the process of making. 2. LIke everybody else, I cleaned and organized. I rediscovered some older paintings that I have never been satisfied with. It was really our political climate, not COVID, that made me think about doing better - be willing to work to be better - at art and many other aspects of life. We could all use a little of expecting better of ourselves and others. I have been reworking and improving some of these older paintings (which I will submit separately). 3. I took advantage of online courses to learn new things.
