Fazio nanette 6feet

Nanette Fazio - "Six Feet"

Six ceramic feet each measuring about a foot, reduction fired stoneware with glaze. The idea for six feet came out of my frustration while going for my new normal stay at home morning walks on the trails near my home. Many walkers not wearing masks did not abide by the six foot rule. It became apparent that most people didn't realize just how far six feet was.

The coronavirus has changed how and where I create. My home studio moved from its original space to a corner of the garage. I was fortunate to have just received a new kiln right before the virus lockdown. Stay at home found me with a full house, all plans canceled as we waited together for things to improve. My husband working from home moved into my studio to get focus away from the bustle. My older son finished college online and graduated uneventfully in the spring. My youngest hopeful he still had a wilderness job in the spring. Creating a space in the corner of the garage I began to work, hours and often all day on FaceTime with my sister who was in her studio painting 2000 miles away. We helped each other through the ups and downs as we navigated staying home, actually getting more work completed with the forced isolation. I began to connect with other artists online, sitting across from each other no matter the actual distance as we tried to be optimistic about the future of our humanity.
